U2 + Muse = average karaokeband

Thanks to YouTube the fun of end of tour parties when bands celebrate with scrappy impromptu covers performances has become fodder for our amusement.

After wrapping up a run of South American shows in Brazil and Argentina, U2 and their support band Muse played a ‘secret’ gig in Sao Paulo, at the appropriately named Bar Secreto, covering songs by David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and Talking Heads.

During the show, Bono and Larry Mullen joined forces with Muse drummer Dom Howard to perform Talking Head’s Psycho Killer before The Edge and Brazilian football legend Ronaldo performed karaoke versions of Bowie’s Let’s Dance and The Rolling Stones’ Miss You.

The New York Post reported that even a simple night of karaoke is complicated for U2, revealing that “U2 crew partied and sang karaoke until 5am while 80 bodyguards patrolled the street outside to keep unwanted revellers away.”
