Classic Hole lineup reunites,kinda

For the first time in 13 years, all four members of Hole’s classic lineup – Courtney Love, guitarist Eric Erlandson, drummer Patty Schemel, and bassist Melissa Auf der Maur – have reunited on stage.

The brief reunion occurred at a screening of Hit So Hard, a documentary about Patty Schemel’s life and eleven stints in drug rehab. According to Spin the documentary includes footage of “Schemel passed out in her hotel room after shooting heroin, Love moshing backstage at Lollapalooza with the Offspring’s Dexter Holland and, most eerily, Love at home with Kurt Cobain and Frances Bean… Cobain goofing around in Frances’ playpen, Love taking a bath with her daughter, Love and Cobain singing a never-before-heard song, Stinking of You.”

However, despite the presence of all four members on stage after the film and the cheers from the audience at the mention of a reunion, the likelihood of the band members reuniting for new music seems unlikely with Love insisting that “If it’s not about moving forward, I’m not going to do it.”

Schemel, who quit the band during the recording of 1997’s Celebrity Skin, told the audience that “There’s been a lot of discussion about a [proper reunion] and I can’t say whether it will happen [in the future]. But I love my old band and it’s always been fun to make music with them.”

While Erlandson confirmed that the issue of Love ‘reviving’ the Hole name and releasing an album without any of the other members of the band has still not been resolved: “We’re still not seeing eye to eye and nothing has been resolved. But I’m open to all possibilities.”

Schemel aggress with Erlandson’s view of the band, nothing that “Hole is the sound of Eric’s guitar with Courtney singing.” Auf der Maur, who released her second solo album last year, claims that the idea of rejoining the band she left in 1999 “hasn’t crossed my mind.”
