Muse retiring 'Origin OfSymmetry' songs

Muse’s lead space cadet Matt Bellamy has told NME that the band plans to mark the 10th anniversary their second album, Origin Of Symmetry, by retiring the album at the Reading And Leeds Festivals in August.

“It’s probably the last time some of these songs will ever be played live again,” Bellamy explained, saying that the shows will be a chance for the band to “draw a line under one phase of our career”.

According to Bellamy “It was on the second album that things really started happening for the band, and when we focused on the live side of things much more. So it’ll be like coming full circle: we’ve gone off on one a little bit, and now it feels like the right time to pull it back and remind ourselves of what we were doing 10 years ago.”

I don't see why a band would make a point to cut off parts of their back catalogue for good.

Just don't play them when you don't feel like it and play them when you do, there's no need to make a big point about it.

Which is good. some great songs on there that never get played anymore.

This news blows. Like seriously this is there most consistent albums, containing most of my favourite songs by them. Why couldn't they retire songs from Showbiz :(

pretty sure they only said they're retiring some songs. you can pretty much guarentee new born and plug in baby will stay.
i actually see this as a positive, in another interview they have said they'll be playing a lot of songs from this album and showbiz which they haven't played in a while. i actually thought we'd never see these songs live ever again, so at least they're playing them one last time.
and apparently the stage is going to be based on the origin artwork with the football posts and stuff, looks pretty epic!

I agree with this entirely. We all know they don't really enjoy playing Showbiz songs that often, but at least they haven't gone as far as to say "We'll never play them again" and that makes it all the more special when they do play them. In general, this is a pretty bad move on their part.

Their performance at Glasto would probably be in the Top 3 I've ever seen if it didn't feature songs such as 'Undisclosed Desires', 'United States of Eurasia' and 'Uprising'.

I think it's less of a big deal that people are making out.

It's kind of like Pearl Jam stopped playing a lot of Ten and V.S material in the late 90's early 00's and now they've started playing a lot more of them again.

Muse probably feel like they've got a big career ahead and don't want to be tied down to a record from 10 years ago. Just hope they maintain a popular following, which I have no doubt they will, and those songs will start popping up again in no time.

citizen erased is my favourite of their tracks and it was spectacular at acer arena, but the crowd of twilight fanatics haven't heard it on their commercial stations, so they didn't really get into it. considering they are the new target audience, muse won't play their best stuff.
origin of symmetry is their best record by far, and should be toured by itself like qotsa did with their debut.

Yer saw them at Livid in 2000, they played after Magic Dirt and to a smaller crowd.. about 4pm in the afternoon, a mosh of 50 people. Its a shame that won't occur again. Showbiz is still their best album. Loved Plug in Baby and Newborn, but I still can't go past Showbiz
