Rumour update: The Darknessreforming

The Darkness have reformed – according to a new report in The Sun (yes, the same reputable tabloid that teased us with the false rumour of the band’s reformation in July last year).

When the rumour surfaced last year Justin Hawkins laughed off the suggestion, denying the reformation on Twitter by writing that “The funniest aspect of the rumour: [drummer] Ed’s new son has brought us together. It takes a sick mind to come up with that stuff…I’m going to stand down from my position as vocalist and hand the microphone to Ed’s imaginary son. He’s got a cracking voice.”

However this time the rumour that the brothers are reuniting with his brother Dan, Ed Graham and bassist Frankie Poullain is backed up ( The Sun optimistically says “confirmed”) by the launch of two new websites theactualdarkness.com and thedarknessareback.com.

In December last year both post Darkness bands – frontman Justin Hawkins’ Hot Leg and Richie Edwards and Dan Hawkins’ The Stone Gods announced via Twitter that they were on hiatus – “All members of the Leg are involved in other projects at the moment. Excitement!” and “Official announcement: Stone Gods is in Haiti (or something)”

There hasn’t been a denial of the latest round of Darkness reformation rumours (yet) from Hawkins who has merely noted on Twitter that he’s “In the studio with @foxy_shazam. @darknessactual actual news coming soon!“ and that “Impatience has the potential to undermine everything. Chill out and stop sneaking around!”

Update: The band has officially reformed to play at Download festival. Justin Hawkins says that “The idea of playing Download terrifies us. We played in an early slot on the main stage in 2003 and we were frightened then. It’s reassuring to know that nothing has changed. On a serious note, it’s the most rockest of festivals and the perfect place for us to begin the next phase of our journey.”
