Battles new album

A collection of special guests have contributed to Battles’ second album Gloss Drop, set for release in early June.

The New York based experimental rockers encountered a considerable setback in the production of Gloss Drop with the departure of their singer and guitarist, Tyondai Braxton in August last year. In losing the sole vocalist of their much loved genre breaking debut album, Mirrors, the remaining members re-banded as a trio to rework past material and to write new songs.

The band’s drummer John Stanier told Pitchfork that the new album doesn’t come across as the work of a three piece, as Braxton’s absence opened up a lot of doors for collaborations with “some really great vocalists”.

Artists featured on Gloss Drop include synth pop maestro Gary Numan, Eye from the Japanese psychedelic rock group Boredoms, dark disco experimenter Matias Aguayo and Kazu Makino from indie rock outfit Blonde Redhead.
