Glastonbury 2011 headlinersrevealed

In a quite subtle announcement on the festival website, Glastonbury Festival has announced their three key headlining acts for the 2011 juggernaut.

As widely rumoured U2 are booked to return to Glastonbury and headline the Friday night, making up for last year’s cancelled appearance. Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin told Q last year that being invited to play the Glastonbury headline spot is like “Robert Pattinson asking you to touch his balls”, but nonetheless the band has signed on to play the coveted Saturday shift. And Beyonce, who according to the event organisers “has always been wanted for Glastonbury”, will headline the final night of the festival.

The Glastonbury Festival runs from Thursday 23rd – Sunday 26th of June and the gigantic remainder of the lineup is expected to be announced in Autumn.

Hmmm glad I decided to go Coachella instead of Glasto this year. I am sure the undercard will be great, but Kanye/Arcade Fire/the Strokes beat all of those 3.

That is a good point.

I am swinging more towards Chella because if I had to choose between full-sets of Glasto's headliners vs. Chella's headliners, I'd pick Coachella. I'd pick them even if I hadn't seen U2/Coldplay before.

I must also add, that I'm surprised not see Radiohead on the Glastonbury bill, especially cause there is no Glasto next year. You'd think they'd get booked for this year.

Could have done last year 4 or 5 (maybe more) times over, seeing completely different bands each time, and had an equally good festival each time. I'd probably still miss someone.

and i don't think that many would camp on site, there would be other accommodation around, it's only about an hour from bristol so you could easily stay there

Wrong: everyone camps on-site. The site has an approved camping capacity of 220000, of which 175000 is sold and the rest used for logistics/workers.

The only people who bunk off-site are worthy farm locals, and that's more for convenience than anything.

At the end of the day, why the fuck would you want to stay off-site anyway?

It's really ridiculous that people are basing their ideas of Glastonbury on what they've been to in Australia. Fair enough, that's all you have to compare to, but there is literally nothing in Australia that is anything like Glastonbury.

There may be 175,000 people there, but there's also 45+ stages / areas. The grounds cover an area basically the size of the suburb you live in.

Only a failure of a human being would not enjoy Glastonbury.

I've done both several times for Splendour and there are definitely big advantages of both. Camping at the site is great for the atmosphere and being able to return to your tent easily during the day, but being able to go back to a house, have a nice hot shower and sit on the couch at the end of the day is pretty fucking awesome.

When i was at T in the Park i camped at a farm 30 min walk from the festival site... it was good because in the morning it had a festival atmosphere but at night it was quiet so you could get some sleep... I like was playground weekender does, they have a quiet camping area for people who don't want to party all night and get some sleep

the contrast in quality of the chemical brothers set to the coldplay set was incredible. where coldplay just re-hashed their previous headlining sets and added a few sub-standard new songs. the chem.bros took it all to a whole new level.

seems to happens almost every year at these huge festivals. i think bonnaroo had a couple of deaths this year. but to handle 140 000 paying fans every year plus loads of other people (i think all up around 170 000 are on site) and not have it end up like woodstock 99 is a pretty decent effort.

not as excited about sunday at glasto aside from tv on the radio's set in the late afternoon.

didn't bother waking up this morning for the telecast. i wonder what size crowd she pulled. would be surprised with anything over 70 000 but i guess you can never tell. although they managed to estimate that Pulp had 30 000 at the Park Stage which is insane considering it is the 5th biggest stage at glasto.

watched replays of The Horrors, Mumford & Sons and Fleet Foxes sets this morning. all of them were great but Elbow still take the cake.
