Nick Cave on new UNKLE EP
Mon 21st Feb, 2011 in International News
Nick Cave has collaborated with UNKLE on the lead track of their new EP, and according to The Bad Seeds and Grinderman mastermind it’s “a fucking hit”.
The news of the collaboration first emerged last July, but with the release of the EP now confirmed for April, Cave has been talking up the track. “I always had a huge soft spot for UNKLE – their pop sensibilities, their hooks, big choruses, their super-treated production”, Cave explains, “so when they sent me some music to sing over I jumped at the chance.” Cave describes the track, Money and Run, as “wonderfully dense… like T Rex’s Metal Guru or something. I wrote a lyric – something desperate sounding to run counterpoint to the joyful racket of the music. It’s a fucking hit.”
Other collaborators on the Only the Lonely EP include faithful UNKLE vocalist Gavin Clark, The Duke Spirit’s Liela Moss, and ex-Sleepy Sun vocalist Rachel Fannan.
The EP and a re-issue of last year’s Where Did the Night Fall will be released in time for their appearance at the regional Groovin’ the Moo festival and already announced sideshow dates throughout April and May.
