Soundgarden “going to recordvery soon”

In a blog post promisingly titled “Let’s make a record” Soundgarden have announce that “Over the past few months, we’ve been busy jamming, writing and hanging out together – exploring the creative aspect of being Soundgarden. It feels great. We have some cool new songs that we are going to record very soon. Thank you for all of the support!”

The note is signed, with the “Loudest of Love”, by all four members of the reformed group – Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron and totally broke bassist Ben Shepherd.

Though the rumours that the band would tour Australia early this year were false, the news of a new album does raise hopes that the Soundgarden reunion won’t be limited to the handful of shows they’ve played since reuniting.

While we wait to hear the “cool new songs”, the band will follow last year’s ‘best of’ album, Telephantasm, with an album of live recordings from 1996 in March.

Reunited grunge legends Soundgarden have issued the following update:

"Over the past few months, we've been busy jamming, writing and hanging out together — exploring the creative aspect of being Soundgarden. It feels great. We have some cool new songs that we are going to record very soon.

"Thank you for all of the support!"

Hopefully they don't mess this up!

I liked every post in this thread, that's how excited this news makes me. If it happens, Soundgarden will headline BDO or Soundwave next year.

.... fuck, i hope they don't do the big day out or soundwave. a separate tour would be much better. hmm, i guess there are always the sideshows if the festival thing happens though.

I surprise myself that I don't listen to soundgarden. I loved Audioslave and Pearl Jam are gods so really should give them a shot. Album suggestions anyone?

They are a bit heavier than both of those bands, but they are really good.

Like most people I will suggest Badmotorfinger and Superunknown.

Update from Spin:

"We start recording in about a week in Seattle," Chris Cornell tells SPIN. Cornell also confirms that Adam Kasper, who worked on Soundgarden's last album, 1996's "Down on the Upside," will produce.

"We don't have a schedule," says Cornell. "It's not like we are going to go into the studio and come out when we're finished with an album. We're putting the music first. The process of writing, recording, and being creative together is the most important thing, not meeting a deadline."

Soundgarden plan to work around Cornell’s solo “Songbook” tour this Spring, as well as some live dates from Soundgarden. "We plan on playing shows for sure -- that's never been in question," Chris explains. "Then, when we have some time again, we'll get back into the studio."

"The main thing that got in the way of us wanting to be in Soundgarden is that long cycle of write, record, promote, release, tour -- then do it all over again," explains Cornell. "It all fit into a schedule and Soundgarden come completely from indie roots. We were a Do It Yourself band that became part of a bigger picture. But we're being really carefully now to do this on our own time."

"We're doing things at a pace that's comfortable for everybody," adds Cornell.
