Iggy Pop drummer killed in hitand run

Iggy Pop kicks off an Australian tour with The Stooges on the Big Day Out roadshow this weekend, but sadly this week also holds some tragic news for the punk icon with the death of his former drummer Alex Kirst.
Kirst, who was the behind the kit with Iggy Pop’s backing band The Trolls on the Beat ‘Em Up and Skull Ring albums, has been killed in a hit and run accident on a road in the Californian desert.
According to a report on Billboard the police investigators say there’s no evidence that the driver of a “light-colored Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon” attempted to stop after hitting the 47 year old musician Kirst.
In addition to playing with his brother Whitey in The Trolls, Kirst also played bass with The Nymphs in the late 1980s. The punk, goth and glam band was signed by Geffen, but split up shortly after the release of their self titled album, which was released without any fanfare by the label despite featuring guest vocals from Iggy. The fact that singer Inger Lorre had urinated on the desk of Geffen A&R man Tom Zutant probably didn’t help the band’s cause.
