Arctic Monkeys 2011 album

Extending upon what is already an exciting list of albums to look forward to over 2011 is the exciting news that Arctic Monkeys will be releasing their fourth album later this year.

While the Sheffield four-piece won’t be having the honour of having Queens Of The Stone Age front man Josh Homme co-produce their work this time around as he did for their 2009 album Humbug, which FL’s reviewer of Humbug described as “a beautifully crafted journey between sentimentality and all out rock, with a lashing of stoner grunge to taste”.

However, they remain in safe hands with Simian Disco member, James Ford. In addition to working on the band’s last two albums, Ford has collaborated with Klaxons, Florence And The Machine and The Last Shadow Puppets.

I hated Arctic Monkeys, but Humbug was one of my favourite albums of 2009 and continually gets played on my iPod. I hope it is more in line with that album than their first 2, which I'm still not a fan of.

I love them but Humbug was the only album I loved instantly.

The other two took some warming up, although my car stereo permanantly has Favourite Worst Nightmare in it.

Oooh, am excited about this one. Preferred Humbug to Favourite Worst Nightmare, but Whatever People Say I Am .... is still the standout, IMO.

Favourite Worst Nightmare is my favourite album out of the three. Hopefully they go back to what they did on their first two albums instead of continuing with whats on Humbug.

the first two albums were brilliant no doubt but on humbug they became a little bit more bold and daring and for the most part it worked. in terms of pure musicianship i would say its their best effort to date but alex's lyrics were a little below par and the album does have a few dull moments. but having spent a lot of time with all 3 albums i would say Humbug aged much better than FWN.

The gift and curse with these guys is that they'll forever look like a bunch of acne-riddled kids who can't get into clubs and sing about the tough times in british suburbia until they SERIOUSLY step right out and do something completely out of the ordinary. Humbug was getting there but was too half-arsed and it still had annoying chav ballads.

Humbug was great but I prefer the first 2 albums/early EPs because they had more of a dance feel to them. It just feels like a differing genre and perhaps could hypothesise why people have differing opinions.

Also, Arctic Monkeys BDO sideshow at the Hordern was terrible, mostly due to setlist but they weren't that good performance wise either, made no effort to talk to the crowd, would have been more suited to a pub. Very glad I saw Cut Copy/Hot Chip the next day instead

i had seem then at Splendour in 08 I think off the back of the Whatever people say I am... album and they were unbelievably good. I love that album so much. Favourite Worst Nightmare was so-so.

All my friends and everyone I saw were so pissed at the lack of Mardy Bum... especially when the Fox & Lion was playing it afterwards...

That was the worst gig I went to in that entire year.

They were utterly terrible. It was about a 2/10 experience.

Agreed, the fact they brought Homme on board for that album made me check it out in the first place, then I went back to the other 2 and found that the first album still sucked (bar one song) but FWN was brilliant.

They're are one of my favourite bands, but I agree at the BDO they were also fairly poor.

agreed but I think musically the earlier albums are more pleasing as well, the riffs are more catchy, bass is awesome, and the drumming is far more intense.
They should of just not bothered with humbug and put crying lightning and cornerstone on fwn.

Nice work. Listened to the first album a few times to try and 'get it' (and only because of my wife's appreciation of said album) and the only thing I got was From The Ritz To The Rubble, the rest was just plain dull.

But for someone who is going to see the Kings of Leon twice after their last two attempts at making music you really shouldn't throw stones.
