Courtney Love sued for twitterrant

It really was only a matter of time before someone sued Courtney Love for one of her infamous twitter rants. Anyone of Love’s 90,000 twitter followers could attest that the Hole front-woman has a penchant for incomprehensible online diatribes, however, it seems that one rant in particular has come back to haunt her.

According to the Hollywood Reporter Love is being sued for a string of insults she made about fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir way back in 2009.

As the story goes in March of 2009 Simorangkir accused Love of owing her thousands of dollars in unpaid clothes, a claim which Love denied and took to twitter to rebut. The Hollywood Reporter claims that on March 17th Love posted a string of abusive tweets which “announced that Simorangkir was a drug-pushing prostitute with a history of assault and battery who lost custody of her own child and capitalized on Love’s fame before stealing from her.” Love reportedly noted, “She has received a VAST amount of money from me over 40,000 dollars and I do not make people famous and get raped TOO!”

Despite 2010 being the year of inappropriate twitter tirades, including classics such as Amy Winehouse telling Mark Ronson “You’re dead to me” and MIA posting the phone number of a New York Times journalist who had got on her wrong side, this is the first ever high-profile defamation case made against a celebrity for what they have said on twitter.

Love too has been the victim of the occasional twitter rant, with one-time collaborator /lover Billy Corgan starting a 140 character flame war with ner only last year in which the Smashing Pumpkins frontman frothed “if you can’t write your own songs maybe you should just be happy that you fooled someone into doing your work for you…”.

FasterLouder spoke to Courtney Love about twitter, Billy and much more last year.
