Tom Waits, Alice Cooperinducted into Rock and RollHall Of Fame

Next year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class will include Neil Diamond, Alice Cooper, Tom Waits, Darlene Love and Dr. John, while Leon Russell will be receive The Award For Musical Excellence – previously known as the ‘Sideman’ award..

Neil Diamond, Dr John and Alice Cooper have all been eligible for over fifteen years, while Tom Waits, who put out his debut single in 1973, has been eligible for 12 years.

Acts nominated for inclusion in the class of 2011 that have been overlooked include Bon Jovi, Donovan, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Donna Summer, Chic, J. Geils Band and Laura Nyro.

The ceremony falls right in the middle of Neil Diamond’s Australian tour in March, but Diamond hopes to reschedule dates so he can attend the ceremony. He told Rolling Stone that he’ll “get in somehow. I’m very hopeful it’ll work out because I don’t want to miss this … Any club that has Chuck Berry and Little Richard and The Everly Brothers is a club that I want to be a part of.”

Alice Cooper will also be in attendance, possibly playing with his former bandmates from the original Alice Cooper band. The group has only played a handful of shows since they broke up in 1976.

The ceremony will be held on Monday 14th March at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
