New Stooges songs

Raw Power era Stooges guitarist James Williamson rejoined the band earlier this year and, after playing his return show with the group last year, has told FasterLouder that he is eager to return to the studio to record with the group for the first time in more than three decades.
Ahead of the band’s appearance on the Big Day Out tour, Williamson has revealed that he has been “writing new riffs and so forth with the hope that we’ll record some new material at some point. We keep working through that to see if we can find some stuff that we think is up to par with some of our earlier stuff and see what happens there.”
Perhaps weary of the reaction to the Stooges 2007 reunion album The Weirdness, Iggy Pop told Rolling Stone in August that he was considering recording another Stooges album with Williamson, but noted that he was “keen to respect the integrity of the group and what it stands for”.
Williamson agrees, “We’ve gotta find some stuff we feel is good enough. We made an agreement that we won’t release anything that we don’t feel is up to what we’ve done in the past. If we find something we can get behind – and we’re pretty close on a couple of things – then we’ll releasing stuff.”
However it’s unlikely that we’ll be hearing a full album from the reunited band. As Williamson noted, “Albums are kind of meaningless these days so it’s not really important to wait till we have a whole album. If we’ve got one or two songs that we like then we can just cut ‘em and release ‘em and go that way.”
The full interview with James Williamson will be published on FasterLouder in the lead up to the Big Day Out tour.
