Phoenix + Daft Punk = hippestgig of the year?
Fri 22nd Oct, 2010 in International News
Fans of Gallic charmers Phoenix got more than they bargained for at the band’s show in New York. Playing the iconic Madison Square Garden at the tail-end of an immense world tour, the four-piece invited some special guests on-stage for the encore.
Making their first on-stage appearance in three years, Daft Punk joined their French mates to play Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger and added some grunt to Phoenix’s set closer 1901. Cue thousands of camera phones raised in the air and much excitable Tweeting.
The connection between the daft duo of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Phoenix goes back to the mid 90s when the pair played in the band Darlin’ with Phoenix guitarist Laurent Brancowitz.
With support from Wavves and Dirty Projectors it’s possible that this show was even hipper than next year’s Laneway festival lineup.
