After winning the hearts and minds of kids everywhere with their cartoon-fronted futuristic dance-hall and raucous daggering tributes, Major Lazer is hard at work on the follow-up to their 2009 debut album Guns Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do in a Jamaican studio before hoping on a plane out here for Stereosonic 2010
As reported by Data Transmission, Diplo recently chatted with Interview about the making of the next Major Lazer record, saying that he and production partner Switch had been bunkered down with some special guests in their Jamaican hideaway.
“It’s a pretty random selection…top-form dancehall guests; Vybz Kartel, Bugle, Timberlee. Also Vampire Weekend, Lykke Li and Santigold. Then we have some classic fellas like Lee Perry and Junior Murvin. It’s like reggae is the vehicle, but we really live in this Major Lazer post-apocalypse world where all these artists don’t seem strange together.”
The Major Lazer duo also recently teamed up with La Roux to create the Lazerproof mixtape which hurtles through ska, dubstep and hip-hop with guest appearances from Drake, Gucci Mane and Amanda Blank.
