Tue 5th Oct, 2010 in International News
Although none of the acts playing at Glastonbury festival 2011 have been announced, the festival has sold out just over four hours.
According to the event’s official website the tickets, for the event which will take place between the 24th and 26th of June next year, were made at 9am and all snapped up by 1.15pm.Tickets for the festival were £195 (roughly $320 Australian dollars), plus postage and packing and a £5 booking fee.
On their Twitter account the festival’s organisers Michael and Emily Eavis thanked punters for their patience with the booking system: “We’re very sorry to those of you who didn’t get tickets, and acknowledge there were some issues with the website/phoneline due to the sheer volume of people trying to get through.”
Michael Eavis had promised to announce the three confirmed Glastonbury headliners once all tickets have sold out, so the big news can’t be too far away.
“The three headliners are incredibly impressive,” Eavis boasted to NME, “The headliners next year are absolutely fantastic – I can guarantee that. It’ll be on a par with this year, and possibly slightly better even.”
Following U2’s last minute cancellation at this year’s Glastonbury it is all but confirmed that the band will be returning to headline Glastonbury in 2011. Bono and the boys have a break in their tour schedule which coincided with the festival and the band’s official website had been advising fans to buy tickets to the festival.
