Stone Temple Pilots breakingup, again?

Following allegations of lip-syncing and a series of bizarre onstage rants about rock, God, booze and divorce by lead singer Scott Weiland, Stone Temple Pilots have postponed twelve shows.

According to the Houston Press, the band was at least an hour late for a recent show in Dallas and Weiland banter in between songs was odd and confusing, with the singer rambling about “using inner-ear monitors, the band’s first gigs, his own past drug use, what grunge means to him and why bands don’t destroy gear anymore”.

The show opened with Weiland announcing to the punters: “But you know what, on the 8th December will be time when I stopped doing dope … I started drinking again. My brother died, I got divorced from my wife … and my whole world basically spun around and so you know what, I’m gonna take care of myself because that’s what I need to take care of … Instead of just having a few shows, I wanna have a whole hell of a lot of shows.”

Stone Temple Pilots had been a short odds rumour to play at Big Day Out but can the band stay together until January?

Scott Weiland is a loose cannon.

Not in the cool way, like Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon, but in the bad way, like Mel Gibson talking to a Jewish police officer.

the fact that he said " instead of just having a few shows, i wanna have a whole hell of a lot of shows.” would indicate to me that, well, he wants to do a hell of a lot of shows.
it seems to me that a lot of the people who are kinda hoping he fucks up and they split will be also the ones bitching and moaning if they were to split.
put quite simply, the man is one of the greatest front men around(after tim rogers ofcourse) and stp are one of the greatest bands from the last real musical 'period'. he made velvet revolver, slash is just a total cock, and his 2 solo albums are amazing, not to mention 2 of the greatest albums never heard.....i got your back scott

the video that came with the best of album (if you got in quick!) is unbelievably good, so much different live stuff, studio rehearsals, and all the vids.

they shouldn't be compared to the glory days/bands of Seattle, they're from a totally different part of the country and are more "hollywood" than your nirvana, alice in chains,soundgarden,pearl jam (and the REAL good ones, mudhoney and melvins)

but they have their place as a great rock band for me

Im currently listening to one Australian front man from the same era that i would rate much higher than both Scott and Tim and his name is Nick Cave. I would put Tex Perkins streets ahead of them both as well. Sure, i do agree with you that Weiland is talented and had something going for him back in the day, but they are seriously tinted rose colored glasses you are looking through if you rate him that highly.

Check my user name, I have a huge boner for You Am I, but I don't think Tim Rogers is a brilliant front man. He's good and easily one of the finest songwriters this country has ever produced, maybe that I've ever heard.

But I wouldn't say he's our best front man.
