Longtime bassist Eric Avery quit Jane’s Addiction back in early March but his replacement Duff McKagan has only lasted six months with the band.
Avery, had rejoined the group in 2008 after first splitting with the group in 1991, but signed off after the Soundwave tour in March, announcing on Twitter: “That’s it. With equal parts regret and relief, the Jane’s Addiction experiment is at an end.”
He was replaced by Duff McKagan, formerly of Guns N’ Roses, who added to the groups long roll call of bass players , which includes Flea, Martyn LeNoble and Chris Chaney.
The band was reportedly working on new material with McKagan and explained to Billboard that they “wanted to thank Duff for helping us write songs for our new record. We love the songs we worked on with him — and the gigs were a blast — but musically we were all headed in different directions.”
McKagan isn’t totally out of work though – he has recently completed work on a new album with his supergroup Loaded and he also writes a weekly financial column for Playboy.com called Duffonomics.
