New Sufjan Stevens album
Fri 27th Aug, 2010 in International News
Following the release of the All Delighted People eight-song, 60-minute EP last week, Sufjan Stevens has announced the release of his first new song-based album since 2005’s Illinois.
Stevens’ record label Asthmatic Kitty says that new record, The Age of Adz, “sounds nothing like the All Delighted EP… [and is not] album built around any conceptual underpinning (no odes to states, astrology, or urban expressways).”
Apparently the record will feature “an extensive use of electronics (banjos and acoustic guitars give way to drum machines and analog synthesizers), and an obsession with cosmic fantasies (space, heaven, aliens, love), to create an explicit pop-song extravaganza”.
The ‘Adz’ of the title (pronounced Odds) references the work of outsider artist Royal Robertson, whose paintings were used for the album artwork and as an inspiration in the writing of the songs.
The new record will be released on 12th October, with a double-vinyl LP following on November 9th.
