Klaxons deny 'rejected' album
Thu 5th Aug, 2010 in International News
Things are heating up in the world of Klaxons with the UK firebrands at last getting ready to release their sophomore record, the awesomely sleeved Surfing The Void, on August 20th through Modular. To back that up, Klaxons will be dropping into Australia to play a couple of exclusive shows on the east coast of the country, chatting to FasterLouder last night about the album, the tour and also taking the time to clear up a few persistent rumours that’ve been bothering them recently.
For starters, guitarist and bodacious hair-stylist Simon Taylor-Davis stated that despite some tabloid-y media reports Surfing The Void producer Ross Robinson had not put the group into any kind of rigorous “training regime” during the recording of the LP, saying that such rumours were “ridiculous”. The Klaxons mainstay then went onto address the so-called ‘lost’ Klaxons album, a full record reportedly rejected by the band’s record label for being, well, too shit. Turns out that’s bogus too.
“That was a weird thing to hear, that we had recorded this album that our record label hated,” Taylor-Davis said incredulously. “I don’t know where this sort of stuff comes from, it’s really odd. The truth is, before we even started working with Ross on this record, we were recording songs with Simian Mobile Disco heavyweight James Ford without any intention of putting them on an album, they were just songs we had with us and it was a cathartic thing to get them out. But that’s all it was, it wasn’t an album, it wasn’t the first version of this album, and it was never knocked back by our record company.”
As well as putting the snarky rumours to rest about the ‘rejected’ material, Taylor-Davis went on to tell FasterLouder that fans will soon get a taste of what Klaxons were cooking up with Ford, saying that those tunes will make it onto an EP to be “released next year”.
