Kings of Leon talk up newalbum; dismiss 'Sex on Fire'as a “piece of shit”

In an interview with the Toronto Sun Kings of Leon have spoken about the bands new record and dismissed one of their biggest hits.
Asked how the band feels about teen pop stars including Nick Jonas covering Use Somebody at live shows Kings of Leon’s lead guitarist Caleb Followill says that “We obviously get embarrassed when we see a lot of people covering that song, because we feel like it’s been done, but it’s definitely better than if they were covering that piece of shit Sex on Fire ”.
Despite endorsing the critical opinion of the pigeons at the bands now infamous St Louis concert Caleb was keen to talk up the band’s new record.
“There are definitely times when it’s very tropical and beachy,” he explained refering to drummer Nathan Followill recent comments about the album “but there is always that dark chord in there that makes it Kings of Leon. But we have actually done some things on this album that we’ve wanted to do for a long time, and I truly feel like with each album, we are getting closer to what it is that we want to do as a band.”
The instrumentation on the record suggests a return to the band’s southern roots with Caleb revealing the album features fiddle, lap steel, trumpet and “a lot of elements that you may have never heard on Kings of Leon [albums]”.
In the interview the band also reveals that they have been listening to Beach House, The Band, Yeasayer, Grizzly Bear, The Drums, Temper Trap, and Kris Kristofferson for inspiration. As Jared Followill, perhaps jokingly, declares “Pitchfork is going to love [the new album]”.
As for the rumoured remix album said to include mixes from Pharrell, Mark Ronson and Linkin Park, Caleb explains that “We kind of put the remix album on hold for a second until we feel like it’s necessary. We don’t want to saturate the market too much and have too many things out there to where people are just like, ‘To hell with Kings of Leon, they are everywhere.’”
