LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy has revealed that he almost produced Arcade Fire’s Neon Bible album and that he’s still keen to work with the Canadian band.
Murphy recently told BBC radio that he is planning to spend less time on writing and touring with LCD Soundsystem and that he plans to make collaborating with Arcade Fire a priority.
“LCD’s not going to die … We’re going to go back to it being a part of our lives as opposed to our whole lives… I’ve been writing lists of things I need to do that I’ve not been able to do because I’ve been on tour or making a record for the last eight years,” Murphy explained.
One of his plans includes collaborating with Arcade Fire, especially as he has “missed two opportunities to have worked with [the band]… Before Neon Bible [was recorded] I went to Montreal and hung out with them. We talked about doing the record but it just didn’t work out.”
Murphy’s schedule also prevented him from recording Arcade Fire’s new album The Suburbs; “I took an extra year off but so did they, so when it was time to make [ the new LCD album This is Happening ] record, they were making theirs.”
Despite the history of missed opportunities Murphy still has high hopes that a collaboration will happen eventually, as he sees it “They’re way younger than me and they’ve got five more records in them.”
