New indie supergroup Tired Pony’s debut album comes out next month, and the country-tinged American gothic tracks feature collaborations with artists like M. Ward, Editors frontman Tom Smith, and Zooey Deschanel.
The group began when singer Gary Lightbody began writing songs for an imaginary band during his down time on the Snow Patrol tour.
As the songs piled up, Lightbody decided he had to make this dream a reality and recruited Peter Buck from R.E.M. and Belle & Sebastian drummer Richard Colbum.
The group recorded their album in just one week, and felt so connected after their experience that they decided to unleash the band upon the world.
As Peter Buck put it, “It certainly felt at the end of the week like it was a band, and that this was a good place to start. It would be crazy not to pursue this.”
The album, titled The Place We Ran From, is set for release in the UK on July 12th.
The Place We Ran From tracklist:
Northwestern Skies
Get on the Road
Point Me at Lost Islands
Dead American Writers
Held in the Arms of Your Words
That Silver Necklace
I Am a Landslide
The Deepest Ocean There Is
The Good Book
