Sir Paul McCartney does ballet
Fri 18th Jun, 2010 in International News
Sir Paul McCartney recently told BBC news that he has been commissioned to write music for a ballet.
The former Beatle has written orchestral music before, with 1991’s Liverpool Oratorio and the more recent Ecce Cor Meum. Still, this new venture is different than anything McCartney has done before.
Though the details are still under wraps, with no clue as to who commissioned the ballet or when it will be released, McCartney said he had already begun work on the piece and is very “enthusiastic” about it. McCartney admitted, “I don’t really know that much about it yet. I’m just writing music for it, but it’s a switch.”
McCartney told the BBC, “I’m interested in doing things I haven’t done before. That offer came up and I love writing music, the two went together and I said, ‘Yeah,’ so I just accept things before I even know what I’m doing.”
