Beck Hansen has enlisted Sonic Youth’s frontman and experimental rock titans Tortoise for the latest installment of his Record Club venture, where the influential artist and famous friends cover an entire album in one day.
One track from the as-yet-unknown album will be posted every week on Beck’s website, accompanied by rough video of his impromptu supergroup at work. The songs are a mixture of faithful and exploratory renditions, with no rehearsal ahead of time ensuring rough and spontaneous takes.
Record Club has seen Beck collaborate over the last two years with the likes of MGMT, Feist, Devandra Banhart and members of Wilco.
Most recently he tackled INXS’s classic 1987 album Kick with the help of Liars, Os Mutantes and St. Vincent.
As part of the project, Beck and friends have also covered albums by Leonard Cohen, Skip Spence and the Velvet Underground.
