Daniel Lanois injured inmotorcycle crash

Grammy winning Canadian music producer and recording artist Daniel Lanois is in intensive care after a motorcycle crash in L.A. over the weekend.

The 58-year-old is best known for his production work on U2’s album The Joshua Tree and Bob Dylan’s Time Out of Mind. He has released several solo albums, and his new band Black Dub was set to release their debut album later this year, though now the album will be released “when circumstances permit”.

Jive Records made a statement about the situation: “He is expected to be released from intensive care soon. Due to the severity of the injuries, Lanois has cancelled all upcoming tour dates and promotional activity and will be recuperating for the next two months.”

Lanois spoke to friend and journalist Larry Leblanc over the phone, and said simply, “Look, I got a lot of broken bones.”

Lanois is an avid motorcycle fan and obtained his license on a Harley Davidson Sportster at the age of 16. He told The Citizen in a 2008 interview that riding a motorcycle helps him to focus. “I’m not trying to do too much. I’m concentrating on one thing at a time, which is part of what makes music beautiful, and what makes life beautiful.”
