U2 cancel Glastonbury set

Last Friday, Bono underwent emergency back surgery in Munich, Germany after suffering “from severe pain with partial paralysis in the lower leg”.
The doctors discovered that Bono had “severe compression of the sciatic nerve” and a “serious tear in the ligament and a herniated disc”.
As Bono will take at least eight weeks to recover, U2 has cancelled their much-anticipated Glastonbury headline slot and pushed 16 scheduled shows in the States, set to be supported by Lenny Kravitz, the Fray and Interpol, to sometime next year.
Kylie Minogue, the Rolling Stones and next year’s expected headline Coldplay have been tipped as last minute replacements for the Glastonbury headline slot.
Festival organiser Michael Eavis hasn’t confirmed the new headliner, issuing a statement to explain that “At this point, we have no comment to make about possible replacements for U2’s Friday night slot. Instead, we would simply like to send Bono our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.”
“It was obvious from our telephone conversation that U2 are hugely disappointed” Eavis noted, “Clearly, they were looking forward to playing the Pyramid Stage as much as we were looking forward to watching them.
Nonetheless Glastonbury still has a stellar line up this year including Muse, Stevie Wonder and The Temper Trap.
