Future of the Left bassistquits

Bands changing bass players seems to be the news of the week and following the departure of Carlos D from Interpol and the arrival of Nicole Fiorentino in the new Smashing Pumpkins line up another band has joined bass changing mix.

Future of the Left has lost a third of its membership after bassist Kelson Mathias, formerly of the Ammanford-based group Jarcrew, quit the group.

The two former mclusky members in the band – Andy Falkous and drummer Jack Egglestone – have vowed to continue playing as Future of the Left.

The band’s MySpace blog notes that “Kelson has left the band… How do we feel about it, as a band? Well, sad, happy, annoyed and relieved at the same time. Like human beings, all told.”

“Future of the Left is still a band, a thing, the centre of our unremarkable lives and continues, if anything, with more effort and furious pride than ever before. We wish Kelson good luck and hope that he flourishes in whatever he ends up doing, unless it’s monster truck racing”.

Falkous and Egglestone began writing songs for what they assumed would be another band but have simply decided to enlist their new collaborators into the Future of the Left fold.

The pair report that “writing for the new record has begun and we’re already many songs down the road, written and demo’d – titles include Assisted Suicide Blues, Home Taping is Killing Susan, The Goose That Roared, ‘Forest is Sorry and destroywhitchurch.com.” Apparently all the new material sounds “really fucking nice”

These new songs were recorded with the band’s soon-to-revealed fourth member, whose main roles in the band are described as playing guitar and “act[ing] like a fucking maniac”.

For now Steve Durose, from Oceansize and Kong, has joined the band to play a sting of upcoming shows, with the new Future of the Left lineup expected to be announced soon.
