Bonham’s Led Zeppelinexperience tour

Following in the wake of Peter Hook’s Ian Curtis tribute shows, comes another tour that can at best be generously described as misguided.

Jason Bonham, son of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, is planning a ‘tastefull’ North American tour featuring music from his old man’s band.

The 43-year-old Bonham did fill in for his father for Led Zeppelin’s 2007 reunion concert at the O2 Arena, but this tour would see him claiming the Led Zep name on his own.

Following the 2007 show Bonham lead the call for a full-fledged Led Zeppelin tour, though LedZeppelinNews claims that “his mother warned him not to get his hopes up”.

Shortly after Bonham had been replaced in his role touring with Foreigner, Robert Plant declared that he would not be involved in a Led Zeppelin reunion again – seemingly quashing Bonham’s dreams.

However as Bonham explained to Blabbermouth; “I have always loved playing the music of Led Zeppelin and after such a great night back in 2007 at the 02 Arena, I took an opportunity to do a very special show which would look at my life with the music of Led Zeppelin.”

Bonham has announced that he will be playing “30 shows in memory of my father, as it’s 30 years since he left this world this September 25th, 2010… Old photos, home movies and videos would help take you on a journey into my life, from my earliest memories right up to the 02 show.”

Conveniently, Bonham’s new superish group Black Country is also due to release its debut record in September. The band sees Bonham playing beside Joe Bonamassa, Glenn Hughes (ex-Deep Purple, Black Sabbath) and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Alice Cooper, Billy Idol, Dream Theater).
