Grizzly Bear lotto ad
Tue 27th Apr, 2010 in International News
In a move sure to fuel the accusations of ‘selling-out’ Grizzly Bear has debuted a new song on an advertisement for the Washington State Lotto.
The ad was directed by Patrick Daughters, who directed Grizzly Bear’s Two Weeks, and choreographed by Michael Rooney the first choice for cute indie dance steps. Rooney choreographed Bjork’s It’s Oh So Quiet and the Hall & Oates dance sequence in (500) Days of Summer.
It’s unclear if the Grizzly Bear song is a Veckatimest off cut, or if was written specifically for the commercial. Either way, the lyrics – “it was a sunny day/I was on my way/dreaming of something more/my thoughts began to soar” – fit perfectly with the whimsical daydream of instant money.
It’s not the first time the band’s music has appeared in a commercial with the single Two Weeks recently used in an American Volkswagen commercial.
So has Grizzly Bear won the jackpot or sold out?
