The Fratellis break up
Fri 23rd Apr, 2010 in International News
Just two albums into their career, it looks like The Fratellis are calling it a day.
Although no official statement has been issued, both singer Jon Lawler and bassist Barry Wallace have posted on the band’s online forum, saying there are no plans to make music together again.
“The Fratellis never had a plan as such, we knew we were good … turns out we were right. At this particular point in time though we’ve found ourselves making music still but just not together,” Wallace wrote.
The Scottish trio formed in 2005 and quickly became known for their tight rock’n’roll balladry, laconic vocals and huge choruses like the anthemic Chelsea Dagger.
Since the release of their second album Here We Stand in 2008, Lawler has been working with side project Codeine Velvet Club, while Wallace and drummer Gordon McRory have also begun new musical projects.
Lawler has not dismissed the possibility of further Fratellis music in future, posting on Twitter that “if someone asked you if you fancy some scrambled eggs and you replied ‘Not just now,’ that doesn’t mean you’ll never fancy them does it!”
