The reunited Soundgarden surprised hometown punters with a secret show Friday night.
13 years and seven days after Soundgarden’s 1997 break up, the band played a sold out gig at Seattle’s Showbox At The Market.
The ‘secret’ show was announced earlier in the day with a Seattle radio station tweeting the announcement of a show by a band called Nudedragons – an anagram of Soundgarden. Following the clue 1,000 fans snapped up tickets in less than 15 minutes.
According to Seattle Post-Intellegencer reports, punters at the comeback show included Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron’s current Pearl Jam bandmate Stone Gossard, Mudhoney’s Mark Arm, Mother Love Bone’s Bruce Fairweather, and Sub Pop Records co-founder Jonathan Poneman.
The two-hour show covered a vast range of the band’s material and closed with a cover of the Doors’ Waiting for the Sun.
