After seventeen years and six albums together Supergrass have announced that the band is splitting up.
Gaz Coombes, Danny Goffey, Mick Quinn and Rob Coombes will play a handful of farewell gigs in Glasgow, Manchester, London and Paris before going their separate ways.
A statement issued by the band broke the news: “Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the years. We still love each other but, cliché notwithstanding, musical differences have led to us moving on.”
The band had been working on a seventh album, Release the Drones , intended for release in May. However the record had recently been pushed back to a January 2011 release date and now seems unlikely to be completed.
Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey have already moved on releasing an album of covers as The Hotrats in January.
With Blur recording new music and The Libertines back together it seems there just wasn’t enough room for Supergrass on the Brit scene anymore.
