Godspeed You! Black Emperorreturn

Since going on indefinite hiatus back in 2003, the members of Canadian post-rock heroes Godspeed You! Black Emperor have focused on theire varied side projects.

That hiatus has ended with a note posted on the band’s website this morning promising a tour featuring “a handful of British and European shows, and then nine American shows.”

Foremost on the band’s schedule will be a headlining set at ATP’s Nightmare Before Christmas at Butlins Holiday Centre in Minehead, England in early December. As curators of the festival the band has gathered Deerhoof, Mike Watt, the Ex, Tim Hecker, Scout Niblett, and Bardo Pond to join them for the comeback show.

It seems unlikely that Godspeed will make it to Australia, as they make very clear that “until further introspection [the band] WILL NOT BE FIELDING ANY OTHER OFFERS.”

The note also reminds fans that “between now and the live-dates, there’ll be rivers of noise and distraction. and the internet is a petty tyrannical monster. please remember that really all that matters is the keep on keeping on. and all that really matters is the shows. and physical engagement in the world. and folks like us and folks like you. thanks for understanding, and thank you for still listening.”
