Amanda Palmer free at last
Thu 8th Apr, 2010 in International News
Amanda Palmer was signed to Roadrunner Records back in 2003, as half of the punk duo Dresden Dolls and since the band went into hiatus in 2008 she has continued to release her solo work through the label. However, her time on the label has not been a happy one.
Writing on her blog Palmer has explained that “after endless legal bullshit, it’s over, i’ve been DROPPED, RELEASED, LET GO, whatever you wanna call it. in other words: i am FREE AT LAST!!!!!! RAAHH!!”
During her battles with the label, Palmer even took to playing a track titled Please Drop Me in her live shows, featuring the pointed lyrics: ‘I don’t fit on your roster/ I’m tired of this pointless shit… I’m tired of sucking corporate dick/ You don’t get me’.
Though the song acted as a cry for help, Palmer’s lyrics did graciously point out that she wasn’t making the company any money and that they’d still have the likes of Megadeath, Slipknot, Hatebreed and Killswitch Engage on the label.
Palmer has celebrated her freedom by posting a new NWA referencing track, Do you Swear To Tell The Truth The Whole Truth And Nothing But The Truth So Help Your Black Ass, for free download on her website.
On her blog she explained that “i have not legally been allowed to put a song on a website and say: I JUST DID THIS, GO DOWNLOAD IT. it’s been illegal. i am so happy i can finally make music and just GIVE IT AWAY.”
