Goldfrapp's lip-sync storm ina tea cup

Storm in a tea cup alert! Currently on the campaign trail for their fourth full length record, the neon-drenched Head First, UK synth-stars Goldfrapp have found themselves in the middle of a mini-scandal over a recent appearance on a Italian TV show which exposed the group lip-syncing and miming their performance.

As pointed out with some damning words by the National Post, the live performance fakery came to light after Goldfrapp frontwoman Alison Goldfrapp bungled her cue and yet her vocals for the tune Rocket came through loud and clear. Uh oh.

You can check out the incriminating video for yourself below. The whole thing is really quite awkward as the TV show presenter shuts off the audio track and the rest of the band just stand there in their colourful body stockings.

everyone who goes on tv pretty much has to lyp synch anyway. at least muse took the piss out of themselves when they did it instead of taking it seriously

This will hopefully highlight how difficult it is to lip-synch well.

Maybe now Milli Vanilla can finally get the respect and adulation they so thoroughly deserve.

Most TV shows always force artists to do this..

I have seen Goldfrapp live over 4 tours and believe me that girl can sing!

Crap band! She sounded like a bitch on the radio the other day. And why the fuck doesn't she stand up and say "non" to lip-syncing?! Other bands do it successfully. Just play the clip... more entertaining than watching someone lip-sync.

Its actually not that common for lip synching to be insisted upon by tv shows. The main tv shows allow for live performances, this random italian show clearly is an exception.

Could Goldfrapp have handled it any worse?

This is the same show on which Muse were forced to lip-sync. Probably not their fault. It is Italian and the "heckler" is yelling out to the guy with the broom and dustpan telling him to clean it up...I think.

hahaha, that was painful to watch

my fave lip sync moment was on countdown (in it's reincarnation) when Mike Patton came on stage and instead of starting to sing he just pointed at the mic, faking incredulity that the lyrics were being sung without him

thats definitely italian, not spanish.

will have to take caitlingheller's word for what was yelled out. i havent spoken italian for nearly 15 years and all i could pick up was the please at the end and that was definitely not in spanish.

Oh cmon your slated to play to a national audience and given the opportunity at 1or2 songs except the show doesn't have the equipment to mic up a band, its just a tv show. So what do u do? take the piss would I!

The distinction needs to be made though; Most bands were born gigging, most pop artists were born in the studio and hence such performances 'help them' they enjoy it and it makes them sound polished. With bands it's an annoyance but in some cases needs to be done.
