Dave Grohl has revealed that the Foo Fighters have begun writing their next record and are planning a return to the studio with Butch Vig in September.
The Foos leadman, who thinks he looks like a 60 year old woman, told Rolling Stone that the record will be recorded entirely in analog, boasting that it will be the Foos’ “heaviest album yet.”
The decision to hire Vig to produce the album was apparently inspired in part by the upcoming 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s Nevermind, which Vig produced.
The new album will be the seventh studio album from the Foos’ and part of another busy year for Grohl who is also working on the second Them Crooked Vultures record.
Foos’ drummer Taylor Hawkins has also released a new record, which he has described as “sounding like me having sex with my record collection”, with his slightly-supergroup the Coattail Riders.
For the album, Red Light Fever, the band, featuring Gannin Arnold, Nate Wood and Jane’s Addiction’s Chris Chaney, are joined by Brian May and Roger Taylor, Elliot Easton from The Cars and, perhaps inevitably, Dave Grohl.
Three new records featuring Grohl… just a regular year for one of rock’s most prolific musicians.
