Just moments after leaving the stage at the final Soundwave show for 2010, Jane’s Addiction have lost their bass player.
Eric Avery, who rejoined the group in 2008 after splitting in 1991, was noticeably distant on stage during the Soundwave tour and his decision to leave won’t come as a massive shock to punters close enough to see his lack of interaction with the rest of the band.
Announcing the break on his Twitter, Avery has signed off by saying “That’s it. With equal parts regret and relief, the Jane’s Addiction experiment is at an end.”
Avery was not part of the band’s 1997 and 2001 reunions, with Flea, Martyn LeNoble and Chris Chaney taking turns filling in on Jane’s bass duties.
The three remaining original members – Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins – are preparing to continue recording with ex-Gunners bass player Duff McKagan filling the void.
