As the band’s website makes abundantly clear, this is set to be a big year for Interpol. The New Yorkers are currently putting the finishing touches on album number four, which promises to return to the vigour of 2002 debut Turn On The Bright Lights.
Now it seems that some of the first people to hear the new material played live will be U2 fans waiting for their favourite band-of-billionaires. Interpol has been announced as opener for the third leg of U2’s 360° Tour, beginning in June in Minneapolis. The four-piece now joins a (well-paid) club whose past inductees include Muse, Snow Patrol, Glasvegas and the Black Eyed Peas.
Interpol will be alternating support honours across America with anthemic piano-bashers The Fray and your favourite artist of all time Lenny Kravitz.
