Film school god Jim Jarmusch has just been announced as guest curator of All Tomorrow’s Parties in New York this September, adding even more weight to the festival’s guest-list.
The director has been put in charge of Sunday’s line-up, and his selections will do his indie cred no harm. Among the acts answering his call are The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Fucked Up, Girls, Wooden Shjips and Raekwon (Jarmusch fans will know he’s a hip hop fanatic, with RZA providing the soundtrack to Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai in 1999).
The Friday sees Iggy and The Stooges playing their towering 1973 record Raw Power in full, alongside similar ‘Don’t Look Back’ performances from Sleep, Mudhoney and Perth post-punk survivors The Scientists in their first US show. Then of course there’s Saturday, headlined by some small-timers like Sonic Youth and The Breeders.
If we needed more salt rubbed in our ATP-denied wounds, this is the line-up to do it.
