2010 looks set to become the year of the productive supergroup. With Them Crooked Vultures suggesting a second album is likely before the year is out, fellow rock – œn roll dream-team The Dead Weather is also keeping up the work-rate.

Speaking with triple j last week, the man-who-never-sleeps Jack White said, “We’re finishing recording the last couple of songs and them I’m gonna start mixing them in the next two weeks.” He also revealed that the results are “bluesier and heavier than we ever thought”.

The Dead Weather’s debut Horehound divided opinion: some enjoyed the rollicking ride, while others expected more. “It’s hard to think of Horehound as little more than an appetiser to take the edge off any nagging hunger for the next Kills/White Stripes release,” wrote our reviewer. Turns out it was an appetiser for…another Dead Weather album.

The four-piece is of course due to arrive here in March for headline dates, and as Alison Mosshart told The Age: “The gigs are much more ferocious than the record. Much more.”
