The Killers #1 on 'Top 1,000Songs Of All Time'
Tue 5th Jan, 2010 in International News
Upcoming Good Vibrations Festival 2010 headliners The Killers have taken the #1 spot in a listener poll conducted by UK radio station Xfm to find the ‘Top 1,000 Songs Of All Time’.
Run to coincide with the end of another momentous decade, instead of merely searching for the best songs of the past 10 years – like most media seemed to do – Xfm decided to stretch the net a little wider. Or maybe they were just taking the piss after Kanye’s legendary – œof all time’ MTV Awards speech?
We can’t be certain the poll definitively covers all eras of music – where’s the 17th and 18th century chamber music greats like William Babell, hmm? – it does give a pretty interesting glimpse into the musical psyche of UK radio listeners.
Mr Brightside, from The Killers’ 2004 debut Hot Fuss, scored them top honours, and they were joined in the top 10 by fellow indie superstars the Arctic Monkeys, Oasis (three times), Muse (twice), Kings of Leon, Joy Division and Elbow. The highest ranking electronic act that we can find was Massive Attack, with Unfinished Sympathy ranking at #85.
Here’s the top 10:
10 Oasis – Don’t Look Back In Anger
9 Muse – Plug In Baby
8 Joy Division – Love Will Tear Us Apart
7 Oasis – Wonderwall
6 Elbow – One Day Like This
5 Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire
4 Muse – Knights Of Cydonia
3 Oasis – Live Forever
2 Arctic Monkeys – I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor
1 The Killers – Mr Brightside
