A crowning year for The Flaming Lips came to an end in suitably psychedelic fashion at the Cox Center in Oklahoma. With a capacity crowd filling the venue on New Years Eve, the band embarked on two sets: one drawn from their own repertoire and the second (post-midnight) a freewheeling take on Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon.

The Flaming Lips of course recently released the Dark Side redux in recorded form, with assistance from hometown buddies Stardeath and White Dwarfs, Peaches and Henry Rollins. This was its first live airing, and the results were reportedly momentous.

“The set’s highlight was a gorgeous version of Us and Them,” wrote Rolling Stone, “which revealed an obvious kinship between the Lips and their forebears.”
