Animal Collective top 'poll ofpolls'

Every year, HMV in the UK rolls together the results from a range of end-of-year best-of lists, creating its – œpoll of polls’. In 2009, 34 publications got a look-in and the top ten mostly reads like a – œWho’s Touring Australia’ list.

Having just rolled out of here, Baltimore pop revisionists Animal Collective lead the poll with masterly eighth album Merriweather Post Pavilion (also #1 on FasterLouder’s yearly round-up).

British critics also gave the nod en masse to Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ disco excursion It’s Blitz, Dirty Projectors’ Bitte Orca (a record that’s sure to shine at Golden Plains and The Lost Weekend in Brisbane) and The XX’s self-titled slow-burner.

The results are unlikely to surprise, but at least they’re a reminder of the musical splendour that awaits us this summer…
