With his latest album The High End of Low performing poorly in the US, Marilyn Manson has been “released” from his contract with Interscope. The man’s seventh studio outing sold just 121,000 copies in America, tainted by a succession of bad press (read the verdict of FasterLouder’s reviewer).
In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Manson put a positive spin on the split. “We’ve just been released from our record contract with Interscope,” he revealed, before later adding, “At least half of my creative output has been squashed, so now I think people can expect a whole lot more.”
One such area his “hands were tied on” was music videos. Apparently under Interscope’s watch he’d never have made the (truly awful and unnecessary) clip for Running to the Edge of the World.
The singer also told Metal Hammer he has begun work on new material, “a bit like David Bowie’s album Aladdin Sane. I think it will be more badass. I think it’s going to be more romantic maybe. Self abusive.”
