Having last swaggered down our way for Falls Festival in 2007, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are about to have good reason to come back. The rock – œn roll retrobates will release fifth album Beat The Devil’s Tattoo on 9 March 2010 through their recently-hatched label Abstract Dragon Records.
It’s not a boys’ (motorcycle) club any longer, either, with Leah Shapiro the new recruit behind the drum-kit. Shapiro stepped into the band’s touring line-up after the departure of Nick Jago in 2008, but now she’s a permanent fixture. “She played on the album, she helped write, so as far as I’m concerned she is [a band member],” frontman Peter Hayes told Spinner this week.
True to form, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club will launch headlong into a punishing tour schedule starting February. Don’t expect them to arrive here before winter, with gigs booked solidly until mid-May.
