The Strokes making live return
Tue 1st Dec, 2009 in International News
Next June, The Strokes (creators of the decade’s best album, if you believe NME) will play their first gig since October 2006. The band has been announced as Saturday night headliners of the Isle Of Wight Festival in the UK, with fellow New Yorker Jay-Z taking the Friday honours.
It’s certainly hard to know if any new material can be expected in the set, considering The Strokes’ stop-start attempts to record a follow-up to First Impressions Of Earth. In October, frontman Julian Casablancas told XFM the songs were all written – with the next challenge being getting all five guys in the same room. At least having them back on-stage is worthy of celebration.
According to Billboard, “other summer 2010 festival appearances in Europe and North America are likely”.
