Every year since 1993, the Literary Review has honoured the worst erotic writing of the year in the Bad Sex Award. Among the nominees in 2009 is none other than our very own hellraiser Nick Cave, for his second novel The Death Of Bunny Munro.
Following the descent of a sex-crazed travelling salesman, Cave’s book has plenty of perversion to pick from. One particular passage that muses over Avril Lavinge’s vulva even prompted the author to issue a sort-of apology to the pop star.
While The Death Of Bunny Munro has been wildly lauded by critics for its dense and seemy prose, the Literary Review has obviously found something worthy of the Bad Sex Award. Cave is nominated alongside literary giants like Paul Theroux and Philip Roth.
“Frankly we would have been offended if he wasn’t shortlisted,” a spokeswoman for Cave told The Guardian.
