Reunited ska-pop group No Doubt has filed a lawsuit against gaming giant Activision over the misuse of their avatars in Band Hero. According to the US Rolling Stone, the band members aren’t happy that players can use No Doubt to sing any song from the game’s tracklist.
The band has claimed they only agreed to have their likenesses – œperform’ three No Doubt songs, and not tracks from other artists. They’re suing Activision for fraudulent inducement and breach of contract, with the argument that the game has turned them into “a virtual karaoke circus act”.
The protest echoes the reaction from fans to Kurt Cobain’s avatar belting out the likes of Bush and Bon Jovi on Guitar Hero 5. That headline-grabber saw Cobain’s widow Courtney Love launch a typically colourful tirade, swearing she was going to “going to sue the shit out of” Activision.
