The man we thought couldn’t get anymore miserable, just did. On the first date of his current UK tour, perennial pessimist Morrissey collapsed whilst performing the first song of his set.
According to NME, Moz swanned on stage in Swindon greeting the audience with a typically droll “Good evening… probably” and then launched straight into Smiths’ classic This Charming Man. Reportedly wincing throughout the performance, Morissey fell to his knees at the songs end and was rushed to hospital by band mates.
The official statement released by Morrissey’s management did not address the cause of the collapse but did confirm that he has since been discharged from hospital and is in a – œstable condition.’
We wish Moz all the best in his recovery and hope that it doesn’t impact the chances of him stepping off our list of 25 Most Wanted Tours and onto, say, The Playground Weekender line-up?
